Absolutely adorable! Loving it.
Oh. My. Gosh.
DIY rug! I have the exact same rug from Ikea and now I'm dying to try this! Here's what Natalie said about it:
Proudest DIY: The rug! I had been ogling Moroccan tile rugs for a long time but could never find one that fit my teeny-tiny budget, so I decided to make one myself. My mom gave me an Erslev Ikea rug that she pulled out of her garage and since it was so cheap I didn’t mind attempting to paint it. I made a stencil out of a sheet of cardstock and just starting painting. I’m enamored with the results and the best part is that it’s completely machine washable!

I love the above pitcher. I've purchased it a few times as a gift from Crate&Barell and just recently saw it at Pier1. I think I'm going to have to give in and buy it soon!

I think I saw this on another blog and the living room rug is DIY - love it!

Thanks Fran you're the best! I updated the post and now I'm dying to try this. I wonder what paint she used? Anyone have a guess?

I am completely obsessed with this apartment! Alcove studios are adorable to begin with, but the way she has treated the space is amazing.

Also, that rug is fantastic. I've read about a few other painted rugs, and I'm starting to think I might have to give a chevron print painted rug a try... I'd love to know the paint, too.

Thanks for sharing and happy Friday!

I experimented and tried the DIY rug idea...and it was exactly as stated- very cheap and effortless! I recommend this to anyone who cannot (or will not) spend the money on the "real deal" and is willing to paint for a few hours. I made my own stencil out of cardboard, bought the paint and rug (totalling about 50 bucks) and started in the middle of the rug so as to make the patten seem symmetrical. I bought metallic paint, which was my only mistake, in that it did not turn out metallic on the rug (as I had thought). Because the rug is so small, I think I may add another rug (with same stencil) for use in a larger room. Thanks for the post and keep up the good work!

Natalie from SF here! I used "Speedball" brand screenprinting fabric paint in white! So cheap and machine washable as it is meant for t-shirts. Goes on opaque in one coat, just use a stippling brush and go to town! :D
