Being trapped inside all day with the rain is making me excited for a weekend full of outdoor entertaining. Above, a little board of some fun pieces to add to an outdoor cocktail hour or dinner party.
I "need" the mason jars and think I want the mint color but am torn by the option for a crisp white set.
The hurricane glass lanterns are on sale and the perfect evening element for an outdoor space.
Lastly, I love the tablecloth and that bar console is legit.

Shopbop + Born Free

Posted on: Sunday, April 27, 2014

I love this exclusive collection formed in collaboration with Shopbop, Vogue, and 22 top female designers to benefit Born Free Africa. Profits will support Born Free's mission to end mother-to-child HIV transmission at birth by the end of 2015.
All 22 of the designers involved are mother's themselves. The line is based on prints from Wangechi Mutu, a Kenyon born visual artist based in New York. The collection is for both women and children and can be found here.

Kitchen: Buy, DIY, Cook & Drink

Posted on: Wednesday, April 23, 2014

If you know me, then you know that I am not a fan of the kitchen. I'm slowly working on my lack of interest in cooking by trying to pin some recipes and stock up on fun ideas for DIY projects. My ultimate (lofty) goal is to get my skillz in order and host a little dinner party. Above, is a board of my current inspiration.
From left to right rows top, middle, and bottom:

Buy: gold flatware like this (or this), store it like this, and tackle this DIY indigo dye napkin
Make: violet ice cubes for guests water

Make: these amazing oyster shells. They are intended to be used as oyster salt cellars but I think they would be a darling place setting for a dinner party.
Make: Add a splash of color to boring cooking utensils with this ombre DIY. Perhaps if they're aesthetically pleasing I'll use them...

Cook: Two ingredient pancakes? Right this way people. This is the type of thing I can get on board with.
Drink:  Spring cocktails! I love the idea of having a signature cocktail at a dinner party- and I need to master the lime zest garnish among other mixology tricks! This round up of spring cocktails provides ample inspiration. I may need to stock up on a few king cube molds too!

Anything that gets you excited about cooking? I need all the help I can get!

Lust worthy.
I especially love the beach blanket (so happy to be living right next to the beach) and the cute oven mitts. I'm really trying to get excited about cooking...the mitts could help, right? I think I may have to make the blue footed bowl my next decor purchase. The design feels very sister parish and I just love the shape.

Happy Friday loves!

Photographer Gray Malin's Shopable Home Makover

Posted on: Thursday, April 17, 2014

Have you seen the OKL shopable feature of Gray Malin's home makeover with Orlando Soria of interior design firm Homepolish
Oh boy. Buckle up.
Chair envy and serious lacquered end table love.
Opposite end of the room. I love the height created by the bookcases however, I would have gone with a white built in.
You can shop the entire living room round up right here!
Next up- the outdoor space.
One of Gray's signature surfboards and a stocked bar cart.
And below, one of my favorite elements- permanently installed string lighting.
You can shop the backyard escape design here and read the full story here.

One of each please!

1. I found this flamingo wallpaper and immediately wanted to purchase it for my bathroom. It would also be lovely in a foyer, or even a nursery.
2. I love the shape of this mirror and finally found it at a reasonable price. It reminds me of the one over the mantle of Ali Cayne's living room (featured in Domino).
3. Sale alert! These gems are on major sale- at only $16 they can elevate any outfit.
4. This campaign style tray table is the perfect color! I'd use it as a little bar cart.
5. I have always loved this photograph of Mrs. Patricia McCormick of Los Angeles, CA captured by Philip Gendreau of the Olympic High Dive. I'm really close to pulling the trigger on this one.

Hope everyone is having a great week! I've been listening to Coconut Records ad nauseum- particularly "any fun" and "west coast".

Spring Picks

Posted on: Monday, April 14, 2014

Spring is finally here and I couldn't be happier. I've put together a few essentials above. I just purchased the sleeveless embroidery pleated chiffon dress (shown top center). It's fully lined and on sale for $33.52- such a steal! I also want to purchase a few turkish towels for the beach.

Just a few things I'm really into.
-This circular jute rug has the most darling pattern. I think it would look great in an entryway.
-The blue and white linen ikat upholstery on this vintage club chair is an absolute home run.
-I'm still obsessing over plates and when I found these they had a similar vibe to a set displayed in a tour of Whitney Port's Venice loft.
-And why not match you plates with you dining chairs? I had to share the sleek lines of the above chair. I'm usually not drawn to retro styles but paired with sky blue velvet upholstery… yeah, I'm all in on this one.
-Then I found the mug. I'm still looking for my own set and think these are gorgeous.
-The color scheme of this botanical wall chart has the perfect contrast. If I had wall space in my kitchen it would be my next purchase.
-Striped candles remind me of my mother. She always outfits family dinners with cool candles just like these. I think they add so much to a tablescape.
-This bone inlay tray is a nice way to incorporate the look into your home without dropping bank on a chest or mirror.
-Lastly, who doesn't need a cute little pineapple jar somewhere in their home? I know I do!

The little artist

Posted on: Monday, April 7, 2014

I adore the space above featuring children's art. I can imagine, as a parent, that there is a constant stream of new creations. I love the idea of choosing a few special pieces to frame properly and hang. Children are so free when they paint and create- there are no limits and it makes them true artists. The gallery wall shown above is a nice take on the idea. I also like the idea of a large scale painting over a mantle. You can even match the color palette of the room by mixing your own paint and limiting the color range offered to your little artist.
I don't have children of my own, but I can imagine that this could potentially be a cherished piece of art for a family.

Oh dear, what do we have here.

It sounds silly but I've been thinking a lot about linen cocktail napkins for my bar cart. I think there's something so special and elegant about them but in talking to people I've received mixed reactions. Some think they are the perfect touch while others find them to be stuffy; noting the potential to make guests uncomfortable (cue mental image of a bloody marry spill). I just game across the above sets at Waiting On Martha and think they are such a fun quirky take on a formal cocktail napkin. The "formality" of the linen and hemstitching is undercut by the cheeky phrases and playful images.
What are you thoughts? Which humorous set would you purchase?
Personally I love them and think that the juxtaposition is brilliant.

Indoor/Outdoor living

Posted on: Wednesday, April 2, 2014

The weather is just starting to turn and It's making me think about spending copious amounts of time outdoors! I'm still on the "kid kick" after spending time with my friends babies so I incorporated a child friendly element into the design with a tepee. Let's be serious though, I'm pretty much looking for any excuse to have a tepee around. I'm a tiny bit obsessed with the striped version above. I paired it with two little stools that can be placed inside or around the tepee. Rugs take outdoor spaces to the next level so I chose a neutral print that works with wicker side chairs, a colorful garden stool, and playful pouf.
