Hammocks & High Tea

Posted on: Monday, January 30, 2012

I stumbled across these cute little reversible clutches ($199.00) at Hammocks & High Tea. Love the versatility.
I'm all about little details, so these chevron drawyer liners ($25.00) are right up my alley. I would also use them to line cabinets (like I did with my bathroom medicine cabinet here).

Patience is a Virtue

I've wanted these striped towels and the little bath mat from West Elm for quite some time... I finally scooped them up on sale. So happy! I'm not going to lie getting up this morning was a little bit easier than usual (knowing I was headed into this cozy space).

*striped towels were $8 now back up to $10 :(
*bath mat is $16.99

Layer it up!

This look is totally working for me. I have a cute diamond solitaire and fully intend on snatching up the J.Crew "martha necklace" and "venus flytrap necklace" ($85) to emulate the look.
What do you think? Perfection, or a little too much bling?

How interesting are these pillows by Wary Meyers? They are hand painted with pliable acrylic paint on cotton canvas, backed in velvet or corduroy, and filled with goose down and feathers. They surely make a statement and are inspired by the abstract Expressionist works of Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, Jackson Pollock, and Robert Motherwell. Each pillow measures 18" square and retails for $195 each. You can purchase them here. Or, if you're up for the challenge, it could be a really fun DIY project.

Fashion Focus- Hello Winter

Posted on: Wednesday, January 18, 2012

It's finally starting to cool down a bit and I couldn't be happier. I love bundling up and pretending I'm back in New England!
scarf-anthropologie, turtleneck, hat and mittens -h&m
shoes-guess
vest jacket- zara, sunnies-urban outfitters
Thanks KG for snapping some quick pics

disclaimer: yes I do believe that bright blue, brown, black, and purple "match"
also, my mittens could easily be confused as oven mitts, but I'm ok with that (thanks for pointing that out KBG).

RUE-Danielle Moss' Chicago Home

Posted on: Tuesday, January 17, 2012

Have you had a moment to look at the January RUE issue? I'm so drawn to the spread on Danielle Moss' apartment. A small space devoid of color somehow managing to establish major design impact... how is this possible?
I love how soft, fresh, and bright the decor is. I could literally pack my bags and move right in. One of my favorite pieces is the huge gold and silver confetti painting (at least that's what it looks like to me). It's so feminine and whimsical! GAH.

PS- Are you looking forward to Danielle's upcoming collaboration with Alaina on The Every Girl (launching next month)?

Day Off

I finally had some time to play with my new camera this weekend. I took a picture of my favorite little house which matched my pants and shoe laces.
Today I took a quick break from my work to bake some treats. I love the smell of fresh baked goods! I also worked on my gallery wall this weekend. After three trips to ikea it's almost there.

No Blue In These Jeans...

Posted on: Friday, January 13, 2012

As of late I've been completely drawn to jeans that are pastels. I had to scoop up a pair. It's such a refreshing look in the cold winter months. Would you switch up your blue denim for these ladies? How incredible are Current Elliott's soft pink leopard jeans? Subtle yet still a statement.
Happy Friday

PS- I'm still rocking my white jeans this winter... anyone with me?

Sisters

Posted on: Thursday, January 12, 2012

Last night I got to skype with my little sister in New Zealand! It was so much fun. There's just something about having a sister and knowing that she will be your friend for life. Sometimes the roles are a little reversed with us though. I'm older, yet she's cooler. She teaches me about makeup and I tell her secrets. How amazing are these pictures above (featured in W Mag) of Elle and Dakota Fanning?
Love.

Look For Less

I love the little Herend figurines and was shocked when I stumbled upon this Expressions version for only 22 dollars! Would you ever scoop up the elephant on the left, or would you stick to the original?

I never make resolutions but I seem to be steadily creeping towards something that suspiciously resembles them.
I've decided I need to treat myself a little more often.

This includes, but is not limited to:
*buying fresh flowers
(generally reserved for when I'm having guests over)
* reading for pleasure
(I love a novel with positively no scholarly merit)
*baking brownies
(its the only thing I know how to bake, and the smell of fresh brownies in the oven is heaven)
*leaving work at a reasonable hour
(I love my job, but consistently logging 10-12 hours a day + skipping the gym is soooo unbalanced)
*taking a legit vacation with friends
(get on that KG I have an adorable green kate spade passport holder that's dying to be used)
* partaking in more impromptu dance parties
(aforementioned dance parties may or may not be held solo in my living room)

What do you like to treat yourself to? Clearly I need some additional ideas.

A New Year

Posted on: Monday, January 2, 2012

The Holiday Season is officially over and its back to reality. I have so many things I want to do that I need to remind myself to take it one step at a time. One of the items on my long list is cleaning out my closet! It's definitely time for a cleanse and with recent wardrobe additions the pressure is certainly on. I always donate my clothing to Goodwill, especially my nicest pieces. Sometimes I also check with friends to see if they're interested. Do you do this? I've never looked into selling my clothes before, but I know that's a fun option too. Just in time for my new years purge I spotted this cute little wardrobe clean out guide over on Mimi & Meg (if you don't already follow this blog, check it out!).
You can download and print Mimi & Meg's guide here.
The hardest part for me is that I tend to be sentimental about clothing, even the silliest items. I STILL can't let go of my college lacrosse pinnies (not that anyone would want them-hah!).
My goal this weekend is to let go of a few coats. Specifically one that I purchased years ago for a trip to Florence. It's in perfect condition and as special as it is to me, it will most likely be just as special to someone else.
Any tips or suggestions for a successful closet cleanse?
