I love the silhouette of this shoe for spring and have seen the pendulum swing widely with regards to pricing. Above, which would you go for? I actually like the color and fabric of the Chinese Laundry version for $59.00 better than the Jenni Kayne suede pair for $450.00

What I should have worn to work today

Posted on: Monday, January 28, 2013

Above, what I should have worn to work today...
Ok, ok, I admit it- I've completely fallen into the winter wardrobe rut! The cold and slushy conditions have gotten to me and I've been dressing with little to no effort (I wore MERRELL'S  today- and never bothered to change into my heels).

It's so hard to get dressed up when you know you have to clean your car off (snow, ice, or both) and slosh your way to work in the freezing cold.  Do any of you find yourself doing the same? It's time to shake off my witer wardrobe blues!

Smitten Studio Cabin Escape- Yes Please

Posted on: Wednesday, January 16, 2013

This one's right in my wheelhouse.
Vacation escape- check
Simple streamlined decor & color palettes- check
I will have that sink one day... one day.

"I call top bunk!" Seriously though could these be any cuter?
Loving everything about this little cabin rehab. Check out all the before and after images plus extra photos I didn't feature here on Smitten Studio by graphic designer Sarah Sherman Samuel.
She's so cute, just check out the little lady behind this rehab...
I know right?! Is she kidding? Her style column is to die for too.
Happy Wednesday

A round-up of a few things I'm currently coveting
1. These otami lumbar pillows add a punch of color and happiness to any space.
2. Garance Doré's illustrations are finally available in her newly launched boutique. This print is my favorite but take a look at them all. Flawless.
3. I'm a huge fan of cross body bags and LOVE my vintage Coach. Naturally, I'm drawn to the legacy collection pieces because they honor the classic Coach silhouettes but update them  with fun punches of color. This purple bag is amazing but I also love this two toned navy/chambray version....choices, choices.
4. I love the lucite clutch look and was thrilled to find a fairly priced version. This collective habit clutch is only $98 (go now and get ont he waiting list!). This works for me since the Charlotte Olympia clutch retails for $835! CC Skye also has a version here for $255.
5.  How cute is this little criss cross coffee table. Sleek lines, a modern feel, and a friendly price tag. I'm sold.
6.  Everyone seems to be getting organized this new year... I love how this rugby stripe bin doesn't sacrifice style for function.

Happy Monday

Looks like there will be a little "Indian Summer" action for us east coasters this weekend.
What the heck is the proper terminology for a high of 70 in January? This was the best I could come up with.
Looking forward to it but I seriously need a winter storm soon after!
Happy Weekend

There's no getting around it... I'm a repeat offender when it comes to spots and dots. I have this skirt  and this sequin top ( both on sale now) and they are too special to even put away in my closet. They hang out on a door like pieces of art.  Clearly, I have enough but these two shirts above are so classic. Leaning towards the second top and would pair it with skinny dark jeans as shown above and this military jacket (maybe even a faux fur stole- whoa getting frisky now).
What about you? Embracing polka dots or taking a pass?

Street Style I Saw And Liked...

Posted on: Tuesday, January 8, 2013

Yes, yes, and yes on the head to toe animal print.  This is not your average Snooki get-up. Mixed colors, classic silhouettes, and killer shoes make this look more runway and less boardwalk...
What are your thoughts?!
Chic circus? That slit looks about as dangerous as the flying trapeze! Sign me up.
Miroslava Duma in a white peplum suit- so downy fresh. Seriously though, que the little bear...
Wouldn't wear together but love as separates.

Taylor Tomasi-Hill in J.W. Anderson- love it all and that little peek a tulle is just insane!

1/2/3
I don't often post on beauty products... If you've read this blog for a while you may recall the time I "got gypsied" at the YSL counter (you can read about it here).  Nevertheless, I think a post on the red lip is something I can handle.
The little circle image is exactly how I feel when I'm trying to do my lips.  It's like I'm suddenly 3 again desperately trying to stay within the lines so I don't ruin the entire picture.  Ultimately, the struggle is totally worth it because a strong red lip instantly adds a dash of sophistication and polish to any look.
I'm not really into lipstick, but prefer lip stains. Revlon has a good thing going in this department- great hue's and affordable pricing.
Revlong Just Bitten is a lip stain on one end with a soothing balm on the other.  I started wearing these a few years ago and really like them although I need to reapply when I'm out for the evening.
Recently, my friend turned me onto Revlon Colorstay Overtime Lipcolor (that's a mouthful).  I purchased it in the color "stay currant" and LOVE it.  It's like a lip gloss on one end and the other end is a clear moisturizing top coat.  Full disclosure I put it on Friday evening, proudly smiled, and had red all over my teeth (no accident this blog is called Chic Geek!).  So you really do need to let the color set and then apply the moisturizing liquid.  When applied correctly, it has serious staying power, doesn't rub off on anything, and last all night without a second application! You actually really need to work hard to get it OFF at the end of the evening. I'd suggest using an oil based makeup remover.

So those are my two recommendations to get the red lip look this season.  Do you have any favorites? Leave any suggestions in the comments area- I love finding new products to use.

Vacation is over; although, I haven't exactly found the balance between the disperate worlds of stop and go-go-go.  Hopefully after a productive weekend I'll be back to regular posts.
Happy almost weekend.
Doing a little more re-design here on the blog which should be up and running in the next few days.
