Currently Coveting: Clare Vivier Handbags

Posted on: Friday, April 29, 2011

I was so excited when I stumbled upon Clare Vivier's blog. I was immediately drawn to her clutches, but found her other handbags and accessories equally appealing. I'm currently coveting the La Troprezienne ($320.00) shown directly above in brown. The simple, roomy silhouette would be perfect for all that I lug to work each day. For night, I would opt for the foldover clutch ($149.00) in either white or green.
If you love the clutch but can't commit to the price, head on over to American Apparel for their version in large ($68), medium ($50), or small ($40).

Happy Shopping

Lipstick Love

Posted on: Thursday, April 28, 2011

I'm in LOVE with Alexis Bledel's perfectly pink pout. Her subtle makeup allows the bold lip to pop. And they eyes? How is that humanly possible!?
Truth be told, I've actually never worn lipstick before! I'll wear lip gloss, but am a Chapstick girl most days. Do you wear lipstick? If so, what's your favorite? I'd love to hear your recommendations of colors and brands?

The Easter Bunny reads my blog!!
I'm so excited. For two years now, a chunky gold watch has been on my lust list! Sometimes waiting is half the fun. My tortoise watch is still my first love...but I think I can make some room for the gold one.

JA Home Tour + Guest Post

Posted on: Wednesday, April 20, 2011

I'm so excited to bring you a guest post by my friend JA. Her home is gorgeous and filled to the brim with inspiration! Enjoy!
I recently had the honor of inviting C to my house a few weeks back. A design expert at heart, I was looking forward to her first impressions of my humble abode. I was most pleasantly surprised when she commented on the “do it yourself” projects in my space. As a teacher with little money to spare, I often turn to HGTV or other design blogs and books for advice or “how to’s”, and with some elbow grease and a few hours, I am often pleasantly surprised.
The media unit and adjoining bookshelves are Ikea. We purchased the salvaged windows (on either side of the bookshelves) from Second Chance, a Baltimore-based architectural rehab series of warehouses. It is always jam-packed with cool finds! When we bought them, the paint was in rough shape and needed sanding and a fresh coat. Onto the books…
I have to admit I don’t really have the best collection yet…still working on adding classics. So, as you probably guessed, displaying their ratty or otherwise un-noteworthy spines didn’t exactly inspire me. With this said, I decided to cover the books in brown butcher paper (purchased from Michael’s) and label them with clear adhesive printable stickers. I now find the look to not only be more cohesive, but quite inspiring!
The flour-de-lil stencil was additionally purchased from Michael’s and I painted it by eye. It adds a little something, doesn’t it?
One of my favorite things about the dining room are the ceiling lights- Moroccan stars- purchased from Arhaus.
We decided on three instead of one because they don’t give off a ton of light. The parsons chairs are also Ikea- I love the fact that the white slipcovers can be washed! The boat was purchased in consignment, along with the hutch, which stores all of our china and glassware- the shelving on the top is open which is great for “self-service” when company is over.
All globes were purchased in consignment for under $30 each. To go with the nautical theme, we decided to purchase a large wall map and frame it, but in a quite unusual way.
Underneath of the map is foam board and there is no protective glass, as normally comes with an item being framed. We wanted to incorporate all of the places my husband and I travel with flag pins. The blue pins are places we have been together, the red separate.”

Thank you so much, JA, for sharing your home with us! I'm dying to cover my books, and start a map documenting my travels!

Look for Less: Target's Ghost Chair

Posted on: Friday, April 15, 2011

I love ghost chairs. The clear, modern silhouette is visually unobtrusive and perfect when working with a small space.

Have you seen that Target has put out their own version of the infamous chair? It is being sold in sets of two in white, black and clear. Would you use the affordable Target version in your home, or hold out to purchase the original?

"Fashion Blogger" -hah!

Posted on: Thursday, April 14, 2011

Inspired by yesterday's post I snapped a pic of what I'm wearing today. I love mixing high and low price ranges and actually tend to go for things that don't "match". Today I'm wearing black and blue. My Michael Kors tortoise shell watch was a splurge. However, paired with a three dollar ring and a necklace from Forever21, I certainly didn't break the bank. I'm wearing comfy two-toned flats from this post, and a lightweight scarf. I'm a sucker for scarves. I have two huge bins stacked full at home.

How do you dress for work? Do you play it safe, or let a little of your own style shine?

Mackenzie of Design Darling

Posted on: Thursday, April 7, 2011

I'm so excited to have Mackenzie of Design Darling posting today. If you're not already a follower of her blog you're in for a treat! Mackenzie is phenomenally talented. She interned for Jonathan Adler, is a RUE contributor, and is sure to make a splash in the design world post graduation.

Hi everyone! I'm Mackenzie from Design Darling and I'm happy to be guest posting on Catherine's beautiful blog today. I'd like to talk about one of my favorite design trends: the outdoor room. I love that designers and homeowners alike are making the most of balconies, porches, and rooftops by transforming them into bona fide interiors themselves!

{I love the striped awning, ikat pillows, and leather poufs in this outdoor living space. And how sublime are the perfectly trimmed hedges around the perimeter? I would think I died and went to heaven!}

{For a cleaner take on the trend, I'm turning to this monochromatic porch for inspiration. Who knew ghost chairs could do double duty outdoors? I'd like to curl up on that cushy white chaise with a good book.}

{It's not for the faint of heart, but I'm smitten with this striped sunporch. Glamorous light fixtures and kelly green upholstery are the perfect hit of sophistication.}

{Who is that man and what is he doing in my dream backyard? In all seriousness, how are those white umbrellas being held up? Either way, I'd like to move right in.}

{I love the contrast of white linens and warm woods in this space. Then again, with architectural details like those windows and an outdoor fireplace, it'd be pretty hard to mess this one up, right?}

Thank you, Catherine, for having me here today!

{one | two | three | four | five}

xoxo

Mackenzie
