Just in time for the New Year!!

Posted on: Thursday, December 31, 2009

My best friend O and I met in Boston to exchange Christmas presents, shop, and catch up. What a fun day! O totally indulges me in all my silly obsessions. Consequently, she was well aware of the fact that I have been lusting over the dabney lee calendar. I was so excited when she gave it to me!!! I love the large C that she chose for my monogram. Dabney Lee has a similar feel to the products I posted about from iomi.

This is going to look perfect on my desk!

O has saved every single issue of Domino Magazine she has ever had. One of my gifts to her was the Domino book of decorating. If you do not have this book I highly recommend it. I was so excited to give this gift, now I need my own copy!

Designer Spotlight: Madeline Weinrib

Posted on: Wednesday, December 30, 2009

I first discovered Madeline Weinrib while on Nantucket. The guestroom I stay in each summer has a gorgeous Weinrib rug. I was thrilled to learn that she not only makes rugs, but also accessories, fabric, pillows, and furniture. I am drawn to her bold patterns and would love to own one of her carpets! The great-granddaughter of Max Weinrib (the founder of ABC Carpet and Home), Madeline resides in NYC. She launched her first collection in 1998. Shop her styles online now at ABC Carpet or find a retail showroom near you.

Weinrib's designs are the cornerstone of each room

NYE Glitz and Glam 2009

Posted on: Monday, December 28, 2009

I love dressing up for NYE! Its the perfect occasion for sequins. In the above look sparkles make a statement. The gold dress is totally glam! The sparkle takes center stage and the accessories are more subtle. I love the bold impact of the green earrings. I let the other accessories be understated except for the deep red lip and nail color.
Below sequins shorts add a punch of sparkle to the look. I love the idea of dressy shorts. I would wear them with a black stocking. Simple accessories paired with a bold studded bag make the look work. This style is a bit more fashion forward. Given the choice , I would rock this on NYE!

The first time I took note of this color combination is when I saw the above picture. I quickly fell in love with the orange and blue and was sure to copy this outfit the next weekend! This color combo translates beautifully into home decor. Below are images where orange and blue take center stage! Enjoy

Save Those Lilly Dresses!!

Posted on: Monday, December 21, 2009

Who doesn't love Lilly? These iconic dresses are so adorable! As I have gotten older Lilly has become less and less a part of my wardrobe. However, there is always that occasion where Lilly is perfect! For little girls its just about the cutest look in the world. Unfortunately, the style doesn't come cheap. One way to justify this purchase to yourself is to SAVE all your dresses, shirts, and shorts. As your daughter grows you can gather them and turn them into an AMAZING keepsake. By cutting up all of the fabric into squares you have the makings of a fabulous quilt! Can you imagine if your mother had done this for you? I'm sure you would have memories of wearing the dresses to various events and occasions. I would have loved to tote a quilt filled with my childhood memories off to my dorm freshman year! If you're not big into sewing you can easily outsource this project.
Conversely, you can use this idea for boys. What about a quilt filled with your son's favorite t-shirts, sweatshirts, pajamas, soccer team jerseys etc.? In the end its the memory that counts, not the label.

Dress Your Holiday Spirits!

Posted on: Friday, December 18, 2009

I love the idea of of personalizing your gifts. I am giving a few friends spirits for the Holiday Season. I decided to go the extra mile and decorate the bottles myself. I went to Michaels because it has a large scrapbooking section. I was able to find tons of different paper to cover up the labels. Each piece was around a dollar. I didn't really want to do the traditional red and green look so I went with an orange color palette. Then I purchased a roll of lime green ribbon, and double sided tape. I cut the paper so that it would cover the existing wine label. Then I mounted a little square piece of white paper with my holiday greeting. You can write whatever you want on the label. I was thinking that it would be fun to write nicknames, or funny quotes and comments. Perhaps another time. I really enjoyed this project and recommend you try it out!

The finished product!
If you simply don't have the time or interest in creating your own labels I highly recommend ordering these adorable wine wraps from Garnet Hill.

Thanks Ladies!

Happy Birthday To Me!

I love being a December baby and always get so excited about my BIRTHDAY! This year I was a little concerned that I may be suffering from a rare case of early onset Alzheimer's. For a good 3-4 minutes I had no idea how old I was let alone how old I was about to turn? Does this ever happen to you? I could have sworn I was 26, but then I realized I am indeed 27 turning 28. Well now that I've got that settled I am so excited to celebrate! I think 28 is going to be a great age. I can't wait to see what the year will bring? Tonight I will have a few girlfriends over to celebrate. Then it's back home to CT tomorrow for two weeks vacation! Love Love!

Wonder what I should wish for this year?

Maybe I should keep it simple...

How to wear IKAT Print

Posted on: Wednesday, December 16, 2009

In this look the ikat print takes center stage. If you're comfortable with it, then go bold and let the print be your main statement. Then draw on subtle accessories to complement the busy pattern (rather than compete with it). I love this look and can see myself with the grey suede bag slung across my chest as I romp around for the day. Comfy yet chic.

My obsession: The Michael Kors Tortoise Jet Set Watch! My sister discovered this piece and I quickly copied her. This watch is fabulous! It looks supper classy and is actually affordable. I love wearing a watch with a huge face. It makes me feel tough. I get tons of compliments on it from men and women alike.
"It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up" -Ferris Bueller

If you're not quite ready to work such a bold pattern why not use an ikat print as an accessory? I love the look below. The ikat vest is to die for. I have paired it with a striped dress but you could easily tone it down and use it with a solid. This is more of a spring or summer look but I just had to use it. I love the light airy feeling of the dress paired with the heavy Frye boots. I also think the thick snake wrap bracelet holds up to the weight of the boots. The flower earings are a bit more dainty and work well with the light cotton fabric of the dress. I would totally rock this... would you?

My Feature Wall

Posted on: Tuesday, December 15, 2009

"Teamwork makes the Dreamwork"

I have been obsessing over creating a feature wall and this weekend my dream was finally realized! Step one: know your own strengths and weaknesses. Sure I can envision exactly what I want, however putting the plan into practice...not so much. So I had to call in some reinforcements. Thankfully, my friend K and her very tall, very capable boyfriend agreed to come over and help me paint. Here is the wall before we got started (and by we I mean they)

Totally bare and boring if you ask me. So we needed to measure the wall and tape off stripes. We went with an 8 inch width. I think it worked out nicely.

K and S hard at work.
Equipped with a 6 foot level and S's pterodactyl-like wing span. They had things under control. I decided to text everyone I know to announce the fact that "I" was painting a feature wall. Then I proceeded to take pictures of them working...and they're still friends with me?

Here we are all set and ready to paint! They did such and amazing job. I was so excited to begin...

A little too excited. My first contribution to the project was to paint a small area and step back to admire my work which led me to inadvertently kick over the entire paint can that was behind me. Comedic relief at its best. What a disaster! There was blue paint EVERYWHERE! Luckily we got it all off the floor! After a few minutes filled with fits of laughter and a few expletives we were able to get back to work.

All finished and waiting for the paint to dry! I could hardly contain myself!

The finished product! A very special thanks to K and S! Absolutely the best friends a girl could have!

The color is a bit bold but I decided to go for it! Thoughts?

Note to self: Begin saving money now so that you can hire professional painters when you buy a home. K and S have done their share and are subsequently "off the hook" when it comes to future painting endeavors.
