Design Crush: William McClure

I'm obsessed with my latest discovery! William Rankin McClure IV is an artist and designer who is a rising star! His work ranges from abstract, realism, sketches, to drawings. William graduated from The Southern Institute of Design and has had features in Lonny, Domino, and various other blogs. I first encountered his work through his instagram account. I saw a picture of his apartment in Birmingham, Alabama and instantly fell down the rabbit hole that is his account. My favorite space he's designed is his own small apartment. William and his cute Weimaraner, Baylor, have turned this space into an absolute dream! On instagram you can see what the space once was prior to his magic. There's also a red phase (LOVE), serious bedroom envy, and the current blue and white state. I love seeing how his home evolves. Although, as I was clicking though his account, I came across this post and thought- how apropos! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. I put together a little inspiration board below that tries to capture his incredible style. You can shop the items by scrolling below and clicking the image.
Tell me, are there any up and coming designers that you're loving?

Rebecca De Ravenal

Posted on: Wednesday, June 15, 2016

I first discovered Rebecca De Ravenal through the VOGUE feature on her perfectly blue and white apartment! Her recent 2015 foray into designing earrings has produced what is quickly becoming an iconic lightweight cylindrical earring named Les Bonbons. With a background in both design and fashion the earrings were created as a result of never finding a lightweight wearable earring. Rebecca's design has become the IT earring and can hardly be kept in stock. Luckily, Les Bonbons are back at Moda Operandi and can be ordered now. You can also visit her website here and check out stock lists here. I'm petrified of heavy earrings and knowing that these are handmade in India and are clip on they are definitely on my wish list!

High Style at Low Prices

Posted on: Thursday, June 9, 2016

Often I'm fascinated by fashion, trending styles, and PRICES.
Tonight, after browsing Moda Operandi for a few minutes, I was struck with the question I always get- WHY would I spend a grand on an item of clothing? Two grand for a dress? Don't get me wrong, I believe in investment pieces and know that beautiful fabric, flattering cuts, and superior quality costs money. But, I just don't think that every piece in your wardrobe needs to be an investment. And I certainly am not willing to invest $840 in the off the shoulder look. I get some of my nicest compliments on "cheaper" items. So I decided to choose a few here that I think double as high style (Moda Operandi worthy) WITHOUT the cost. I also gave little tips on how I would style each piece.

Let me know your thoughts. Is this a type of segment you would like to see more often here? What are your thoughts on investment pieces? Personally, I don't mind parting with a dress at the end of a season when I know that I bought for it for only $40 bucks!
