No seriously, genius.

How have I never heard this song before? Obsessed.

Walking Contradiction

Posted on: Tuesday, February 28, 2012

I love everything about this image. I'm particularly drawn to the little girl on the right. Yes, she's been styled for a photoshot, but she reminds me of myself. A good friend once said of my blog "gosh, no one would ever believe you are an athlete". Perhaps we are all walking contradictions at times?

Not Your Mother's China Pattern...

I first discovered Jill Rosenwald a few years ago in a small boutique on Nantucket. I am continually drawn to her work. She has such a fun, vibrant, modern design aesthetic. I'm partial to her ceramic lines (bowls, trays, mugs, lamps & vases) but she also designs fabric, pilllows and rugs.

The Power of Simplicity

Posted on: Thursday, February 23, 2012

I was surprised to find that in the sea of street style pictures featuring NYFW I was struck by looks that portrayed bold simplicity. The plethora of images featuring mixed prints and textures were certainly eye candy; however, these two looks stopped me in my tracks. Above: red on red on red? GENIUS and so unexpected. Below: pastel blue set against a matching facade with white textured leather, wool, and accessories. I can't handle it. The striking juxtaposition of the brocade necklace with the modern biker glove is truly inspiring.
I would rock these ensembles in a "new york minute".

I absolutely adore this image of Bri Emery. Look at those locks. I think getting your hair done is the ultimate pampering. I'm scheduling a cut and color this moment!

The weather has been so mild this winter. It's hard not to be ready for spring. I'm looking forward to florals, soft color palettes, big sunnies, and nude lips.

Bedroom Update

Posted on: Thursday, February 16, 2012

My latest project is sprucing up my bedroom. Using little updates on existing items, switching out the color palette, and adding some classic pieces with clean lines. I'm so inspired by Rubie Green fabrics, but am doing some research to see if I can find the look for less. I'm also tempted to highlight my latest purchase (headboard) by painting a grey feature wall. I've seen it in a ton of different spaces, and I'm always impressed.

(PS- My friend Mackenzie of Design Darling tipped me off about using Pages for layouts. I had so much fun playing around as I created the above inspiration board. Thanks lady!)

Music+Mood Boards

My latest obsession is this cover of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Walk off the Earth. I had to include the video on this one because the teamwork below is nothing short of incredible. Five people playing the guitar? Not something I've ever seen before. I can't take credit for this find. The little one offhandedly mentioned it to me the other week. How she manages to live in New Zealand and still scoop me on music finds is beyond!

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. What are you listening to these days?

Simplicity

This image is striking. The stark canvas against the full eyelashes is so unexpected. I would love to have this on my gallery wall.
Happy Friday loves!

Update: Couldn't find a source so I drew it myself (so impatient).

DIY Heart Elbow Patches

Posted on: Thursday, February 9, 2012

Had to share this DIY tutorial that I found over here, on Honestly...WTF.
I've wanted to do this since I posted this image last year. I definitely won't have time to get this done by Valentines day... but maybe you will? Head on over and check it out.
Enjoy
xx
ps- If you love the look but aren't interested in the DIY check out this adorable elbow patch sweater (in either black with brown hearts or white with pink hearts $62.67).

DIY Valentines Day Cards

Posted on: Wednesday, February 8, 2012

I stumbled across this idea last year and am using it again this Valentines Day.

All you need are paint colorways from a local store like Home Depot or Lowe's.

I print "xoxo" on the front, then generally write "Happy Valentines Day" above. Sign, and you're done. The above are in progress.

Do you send out cards?

Weekend Plans:

Posted on: Friday, February 3, 2012

Seemingly conflicting ideologies above...
It's been one of those weeks. My desk looks like a bomb went off, and my days have been filled with long to-do lists feverishly getting checked off. I'm headed into a really busy time and I actually took a moment yesterday to thank my little brain for keeping everything in order and not letting me drop the ball on anything! Isn't it amazing how incredibly efficient we can be at times? Well, that little pat on the back is going to be short lived because there's plenty more to do. I'm determined to stay balanced though, so I'm scheduling down time to indulge in all of my little hobbies.

A few fun things to check off my list this weekend:
√ continue dresser update/makeover
√ check the tracking for delivery on new headboard
√ look into sewing heart elbow patches on a sweater for valentines day
(or cave and just buy something)
√ start writing cards for valentines day
√ make chocolate covered strawberries
√ select fabric for bedroom curtains
√ learn to play with the aperture on my camera and blur backgrounds

(OK, not all of these will get done but at least they are on the radar!)
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Martha+AVERY at Staples.. Oh My!

Posted on: Wednesday, February 1, 2012

I've been on an organization kick as of late and this collaboration might just send me directly over the edge! I was in Staples yesterday and I saw Martha Stewart's latest line. A collaboration with AVERY that includes binders, dry-erase decals, journals, dividers, notepads, stickey notes... the list goes on and on.

I grabbed a few of the boxes and stocked them with my makeup. I went for white but they also come in a Tiffany's blue. So inexpensive too. I think my total was about ten bucks for organizational bliss ;)

Shop the collection here.
