Naomi Stein's Loft on Design Sponge

Posted on: Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I had to re-post these images from Naomi Stein's loft via Design Sponge. These four photos are my favorite, but you must check out the entire space on Design Sponge.

I love this bedroom because it reminds me of my little sister. Boho-chic, with a dash of prep, and a touch of class. The only thing that would have to be nixed is the Manroe picture. That wouldn't fly with the little one, but it's one of my favorite features of the room. Over-the-top glam, yes please.
The print is actually called the "Marilyn Monroses" and you can buy it here in various sizes and forms. The small poster (unframed) just shot to the very top of my wish list...(psst Santa, do you read my blog?). I love how its framed in white, it keeps the look so soft.
My other love in the bedroom is the headboard! Unfortunately, it was a steel for $60 at an Urban Outfitters sample sail. Fortunately, Target has the Monaco Nail Button Headboard which is spot-on and also on my wish list (can somebody in my family read this blog for goodness sake?). Of course, the killer pink pillows are non other than Caitlin Wilson of CWD Textiles (I have a small obsession with this fabric).
Bench Envy.
Note to self: Next home MUST HAVE a bar cart.
I also love exposed brick that is painted white.

Above, so BOLD. Love Naomi's ability to design outside of the box. Also, those little stools are a DIY project.

Beauty

Posted on: Monday, November 28, 2011

I haven't been loving my cleansing routine as of late so I started supplementing it with an at home facial. I simply crush up 4-5 uncoated aspirin tablets and mix the powder with organic honey. I apply the paste and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. When I rinse if off the aspirin actually acts as a light exfoliant. I've noticed that it not only makes my pores smaller but it also cuts down on redness.
When I went home for Thanksgiving, I started using my sister's cleansing system- typical annoying older sister move. Now I'm hooked on these two philosophy products: the purity made simple, a one-step facial cleanser and the microdelivery exfoliating wash. After just four days my skin feels smoother, and cleaner.
Do you have any must-have beauty products you swear by?

Music+Mood Boards

Happy Thanksgiving loves! I'm hopping a flight home later today. This is one of my favorite jams to throw on when I'm excited to leave on a trip. Must be the "I'll come running" line.
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy holiday.

Fashion Focus

Posted on: Monday, November 21, 2011

Fall layers.
I always get hot regardless of the temperature so I'm sure to dress in layers.
Faux Fur Stole: h&m, Blazer: banana republic, Oxford: madewell campfire cargo shirt, Sunnies: urban outfitters, Jeans: jbrand, Boots: frye, campus, Bag: urban outfitters.
It's only a matter of time until my fashion focus efforts begin to morph into a dance party. Below, the flying swan. I'll spare you of the running man.
Thanks, KG, for snapping a few quick pics with my iPhone.

Update:

I love my bag!
When I purchased it I wanted a cute, inexpensive work bag that I could beat up and not care about. I'm very careful with my "investment" bags so I don't often carry them at work. There was a small pen mark on the back of the UO bag so I asked for a discount and received 15% off.
SOLD.
I generally carry quite a bit. I have used the shoulder strap without any issue; however, I tend to carry it over my forearm or by the actual handles. I love the outer envelope storage and have not had any problems with the hardware. Inside the bag there is ample room as well as three small spaces (one zippered) for key's phone etc.
I generally carry a checkbook sized wallet, sunglasses, a makeup bag, my inhaler (geek), pens, and a plan book.
I wouldn't put a laptop or too many heavy books in (but again, I don't have that need).
For what I spent, and knowing that its not real leather, I am quite happy with my purchase. I would recommend it.

Glittery look for less...then another for more.

The Miu Miu glitter boot is the current "it" shoe. The price is a bit steep so I found two options that will give you the look without breaking the bank. I'm not sure I could pull these off... would you wear them?
Below, we're back to another "investment piece".
I would rock the Co-Op glitter ankle boot in a heartbeat. They are the perfect balance of casual+tough+girlie. I found a DIY version here, but I'm lusting after the real deal on this one.
Happy Friday!

The search for an iPhone case continues...

Posted on: Wednesday, November 16, 2011

I still don't have a case for my iPhone. I can't decide on one that I love. I'm really liking what iomi has to offer though. Super cute!
Also loving their new loafers, here.

There's something about continuing to wear white as winter approaches. It's just so crisp and clean.

Posted on: Friday, November 11, 2011

I'm seriously ready for a snow day. A little winter weather always lifts my spirits. Especially when I get to stay home from work and do a little blogging.

How amazing are these slippers from Anthropologie?!
I'm loving the orange, but would be much happier if Santa slipped the polka dot pair under my tree.

Color Bug by Kevin Murphy

Have you been bitten by the bug? Colorful locks have been all over the runway but the commitment to permanent color can be a little more than your average girl is ready, or willing to take on. Stylist, Kevin Murphy has created the perfect product for temporarily dressing your locks. Color Bug wipes on high def color and washes out immediately! And, there's no messy liquid, it's actually made of pressed powders. You need to first apply hair product (like hair spray or a texturizer. The thicker the product the brighter the color), then rub Color Bug in the desired area. Take a look at Kevin's podcast to learn a few styling tricks.
I checked Amazon and it is entirely sold out of the product. If you're interested, I would inquire at your local salon. Pricing is about $20.00 and it is available in pink, purple, and orange (if you can get your hands on it).
Would you use this product? I totally would. And, am I alone on this one or do colored tresses make you want to rock leather pants also? No...no one? ...Bueller??

I'm an avid reader of The Glitter Guide so you can imagine how excited I was to discover, over Twitter, that there was a small feature on one of my DIY projects.
Head on over to check out the "5 Things To Try This Weekend"

Also, if you're new to my blog, I have decorated quite a bit of my home using various DIY projects. You can view my house tour and find links to each project in this post.

How many coats is too many?

Posted on: Friday, November 4, 2011

My problem with coats is that I don't grow out of them! So how can I justify buying new ones?
Well... I don't have any cozy fall coats like these? Perfect for the vineyard, apple picking, or any other outdoor activity you can dream up.
I'm totally smitten
Oh, and then there's this cape which makes me think the Pilgrims had it right all along...

Winter Warmth in Style

Posted on: Wednesday, November 2, 2011

Cold weather is on it's way and there's nothing better than a heavy duty blanket to help you stay warm. Here are my picks for serious warmth and traditional style. Above, (A), the Hudson Bay Company millennium point blanket has the perfect neutral color scheme. It would work perfectly with my living room rug. I love how it was used as a headboard above (although I don't think I could stand it in the summertime).
Below, B and C are Pendelton National Park blankets made from 100% pure virgin wool.

My current throw blanket is cashmere, but I love the idea of wool's durability. I'm also completely smitten with the stripes. Do you have any wool blankets for winter?
