My newest go-to is throwing a t-shirt or button-down over a maxi dress and turning it into a skirt. Also, I can not stop wearing this hat! I wore it with a white dress this weekend and when I walked int CVS a man said to me "town and country honey!". Still not sure if that was a complement?

My Man's Got Soul

Happy Long Weekend!

I hope everyone is able to leave the stress of the week behind and enjoy some fun+sun! Jamie Lidell's song "Multiply" always helps me unwind. If you can stay seated in your chair while this song is playing...you have more self restraint than I do! ;)

Closet Therapy

I love this image of Cynthia Smith (of Vogue) getting ready for work in the apartment she shares with her sister. Not only is the decor adorably chic, but the picture (although probably staged) depicts an important bond that sisters and girlfriends share.
When you really think about it...aren't we all still playing dress-up?

I'm so excited to have Katie, of Daily Crush, posting today. If you haven't visited her blog yet, you should definitely head on over after reading this post!

Last week I posted my fashion summer essentials on Daily Crush. Katie was kind enough to put together a post on her essentials to share here! A fun little blog swap. Thanks so much Katie!

Hello there! My name is Katie Carlin and I am the author of Daily Crush. I am thrilled to be posting on Chic Geek today on some of my "summer essentials." I have divided it into three categories:the perfect wedge, the little white dress, and statement jewelry! All three things that are must-haves for this summer!

{1.} Dolce Vita "Toni" Espadrille {2.} Tory Burch Crochet Wedge {3.} Madewell Espadrille Wedge Sandal

Always perfect in summer, can be dressed up or worn with flip flops. To the beach or to a cocktail party or graduation, here are some of my favorites.
{1.} Helmut Lang Veil Shirting Dress {2.} Lilly Pulitzer lace dress {3.} Opening Ceremony Outside Seam Dress {4.}Alexander Wang handkerchief tie dress {5.} Lilly Pulitzer shift dress {6.} 3.1 Phillip Lim jacquard sleeveless dress

All of the jewelry featured above is Heidi Daus jewelry. The other day I was sent a box filled with a few Heidi treats that I can not wait to wear! I was gifted a gorgeous pair of vintage style earrings, a beautiful cocktail ring, and a fun turquoise bracelet. All of Heidi's designs have a very modem appeal and can really spice up any outfit. I highly recommend checking out her site!

Thank you so much for having me! Have a great week : )

College Prep

Posted on: Friday, May 20, 2011

When the weather turns and the first signs of spring come along I always think of my college days. The second the weather became warmer the quad would erupt with activity! Whiffle ball games, sunbathing, frisebees, little laxin', and dorm room windows wide open with the speakers turned out to the quad. Vampire Weekend's "Campus" always brings me right back to those carefree moments.

This weekend I'm off to watch the little one's college days come to an end. I'm so proud of LC, and I can't wait to celebrate her graduation!

Head on over...

Craving Some Serenity

Posted on: Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Simply put, my life could not possibly be more hectic. As you can imagine, I'm feeling particularly drawn to calm surroundings free of clutter and extraneous input.

This Swedish 58 square meter apartment is just what the doctor ordered. The open floor plan and practical decor is so refreshing. I wish I could pack my bags for a relaxing weekend.

I had an incredibly exciting and busy weekend! A baby shower, a birthday party, and a wedding shower. I incorporated my sleeveless trench into most of my outfits over the weekend.
When I showed up for the birthday party (completely overdressed having just left the baby shower) my friend commented on the trench saying "I don't get it?". To which I replied, "There's nothing to get... it's completely ridiculous and has no function, but I love it!"
I've seen the sleeveless trench everywhere lately. Bandwagon? Yup! I wasn't ready to DIY one, as I simply can't part with the sleeves on my original trench coat. So, I opted for this one from urban oufitters. I've worn it open, belted over dresses, and with skirts. It's actually a really fun, versatile piece. It may not be for everyone... my mother hates it.

M&M Tie The Knot!

Posted on: Friday, May 13, 2011

Simply Majestic

That is the only way to describe the wedding of M&M in Malibu, CA. I am so honored to have attended this special event.

The vision was created and implemented completely by the bride and groom.

Above, the head table looks like it should be featured in a magazine.

The decor was flawlessly styled.

Linen napkins were paired with centerpieces that included natural elements such as wild flowers and wooden table numbers. Gorgeous antique books added height, drama, and warmth.

The scenery and landscape were simply breathtaking. I have NEVER experienced such beauty.

Above, the bride (my cousin) and her husband welcome guests and kick off what proved to be a night to remember. As the sun went down, the energy of the crowd went up! We danced the night away amongst the idyllic scenery.

Above, M&M's first dance!

From that moment on, the dance floor was jam packed! This is one of those moments I wish I could live again. Growing up I always idolized "M" for good reason. A beautiful woman, inside and out, she deserves all of the happiness in the world.

All my love and best wishes to M&M on their new life together.

As of late, I've really gotten into the idea of lipstick. Thank you to everyone for your recommendations! Knowing that I was a complete novice, I wasn't ready to commit to an expensive brand at first. I knew I needed to call in my friend "O" (I posted on her wedding here) to steer me in the right direction- que mental picture of me in a CVS aisle whining on the phone, unable to navigate a solo mission. Luckily, she immediately recommended Just Bitten lipstain+balm by Revlon. It was buy one get the second half off, so I went with Passion (light bright pink) and Frenzy (a deep red with an ever so slight purple hue). I wore Frenzy in Malibu and my mother said I looked lovely. As you can imagine her opinion is completely objective and non bias...so it must be true.

In all seriousness, the Just Bitten color stayed on through dinner, dancing, and a glass or two of Prosecco ;) I would highly recommend it.

I've always found this song to be hauntingly beautiful. Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan's duets are utterly heart wrenching (they are exes). If you like this one I would also check out rootless tree (fair warning-rootless tree contains expletives)
