The Importance of Color

Same Dress
Blue=Phenomenal White=Falls Flat

Do you agree? It's amazing how color can absolutely transform a silhouette! I adore the navy dress and the subtle contrast of the light blue belt. Conversely, the white looks like a bad nightgown.

My Five Must Haves

Posted on: Friday, January 28, 2011

KAG of Monograms and Martinis just tagged me to share five things that I can't leave home without.

So here it goes:

1. My Cannon PowerShot. Yes, I am that girl! I'm constantly documenting everything.

2. YSL lip gloss! The obsession started that fateful day when I got "gypsied" into buying hundreds of dollars worth of YSL makeup. Refer to this previous post for the full recap. All ended well, and now I'm hooked.

3. My Nike Free Running Shoes. These little ladies are heaven! They are featherweight and I pack them everyday for my afternoon workouts.

4. My Blackberry....it needs no explanation.

5. An eyelash curler. I know, it's odd, but I swear I can actually see better when my eyelashes are curled by this medieval torture device. I have been known to whip this out at inappropriate times.

I'm tagging the following ladies:

Fran of Green Street + Mackenzie of Design Darling + The Ladies of Chic Coles

HomeGoods Promotes Hoarding.

Every time I go to HomeGoods I have one specific item in mind that I need to pick up. With that said I generally walk out with tons of other things that I don't "need", but simply "can't live without". They get me every time!
Above I found this amazing tray with horns for handles. How could I say no? It's killer. Then I found three faux books that serve as storage units because they are actually hollow boxes. The smallest is above on the tray.
Then I have a larger version that I used on my drop leaf table. I love the faux snakeskin against the hues of blue and the pop of pink roses.
The last box is in the kitchen and houses all of my ribbons. I like to tie little bows on the stems of wine glasses when entertaining.
It's safe to say that I should stay away from HomeGoods for a bit, but that doesn't mean you have to!
If you go to the HomeGoods page click on the "find a store" tab. Enter your zip code, and all of the closest stores will be listed!
Enjoy

Wordless

I love the above image and decided to accessorize the outfit with a few of my own picks. I would pair the leopard top with black cropped pants or a black pencil skirt. Add sky-high patent heels, and a pop of color with the Envelope Portfolio Clutch. Then finish off the look with the Large Peridot Shell Ring and your done.

A girl can dream...right?

Inspiration Board

Posted on: Monday, January 24, 2011

I originally posted on my DIY inspiration board here. Sadly, over time it began to warp. Fortunately, I was able to affix it properly to the wall using velcro Scotch Reclosable Fasteners.
My current favorite image is the office of Desiree Rogers, former White House Social Secretary. Wouldn't you just die to work in a space like this? From the grand desk to the Hermes notebooks, the room is simply perfect in every way.

Polka Dots

Posted on: Friday, January 21, 2011

Admittedly, I've never been a huge fan of polka dots... but I have to say that I'm certainly warming up to them lately. Is it just me or do you flash to this image when polka dots are mentioned?

Have a great weekend!
Today's post is dedicated to AH who rocks the dots like no one else can!

Busy Week!

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I adore everything about this image.
The European feel paired with the timeless fashion and carefree spirit combine effortlessly to evoke a conviction to delight in life's simple pleasures.

I kid, I kid...

I kid, I kid.

This photograph is so silly but I absolutely love the juxtaposition of the outfit's grandeur and the transportation's utilitarianism.
I have to give a big thank you to Fran of Green Street, Leslie of Pink Tulips, and TG of The Prippy Handbook for giving me the "Stylish Blogger Award". I'm thrilled! Special thanks to all of you who visit this little blog of mine and especially to the ones who take the time to comment. Too sweet, it makes my day.

Have you seen Jen's new master closet of Made By Girl?
She used an Ikea shelving system which looks completely custom! An antique chandelier and leopard runner add pure glam! What an amazing transformation... a place for everything, and everything in it's place.

DIY Kate Spade Cloverdale Rose Bowl

Posted on: Monday, January 17, 2011

I've loved the Kate Spade Cloverdale rose bowl ever since I saw it on Michele Adam's nightstand. When I saw Lindsay's DIY replica of the coveted vase over on The pursuit of Style I was floored! I knew I had to recreate the project immediately. Now I know having it styled with the domino book is a little "single white female" of me... but hey, I already owned it and I know a good idea when I see one.
The project was super easy. I spent about three dollars on the vase at Michael's. I picked up a gold sharpie to trace over my polka dot template, then filled in the dots with gold paint.
Tadah!
Roses make me so happy.
Thanks for the idea Lindsay!!

Inspiration- Look for Less

I ADORE the inspiration outfit pictured above on the left and thought it would be a fun challenge to create a similar look that's a little less dressy and budget friendly (in comparison to the inspiration). I chose the J.Crew silk-taffeta tulip skirt ($160.00) to mimic the silhouette of the inspiration look. I love the idea of pairing it with a GAP denim shirt ($59.50) to play against the formality of the silk. I paired a thick cuff ($14.00) which adds major impact for a minimal monetary commitment. Throw on an animal print scarf ($86.00), and you're done.
My favorite part of the look for less is that each item can be worn again in countless combinations! I wear my denim shirt with black leggings and boots all the time. I also love the idea of allowing the silk-taffeta skirt to take center stage in a dressy ensamble with killer accessories. The scarf can be paired with everything from cropped black pants to jeans on the weekend.

InStyle just announced that Calypso St. Barth, a favorite of Jennifer Aniston (pictured above wearing Calypso) is confirmed to create a limited-edition collection of fashion and home items for Target, set to launch May 1st in stores and online. I could not be more excited, but am a little concerned that I may turn into this lady!

Look for Less

Posted on: Monday, January 3, 2011

Here's to starting out the new year with some serious savings!
No Brainer

Do you love the look of the Chanel and Lanvin two-toned flats but feel that 600 bones is a little silly for slippers? If so, head on over to Gap and get an instant fix. I can't wait to wear my new shoes to work. The extra cash in my back pocket is sure to put a spring in my step ;)

Vacation's Over

Posted on: Sunday, January 2, 2011

So sad to have vacation coming to a close! I had so much fun relaxing with friends and family over the holiday season, but it's time to get back to work. I'm all packed up and am heading home today.

Happy Sunday!
