Reality Check?

Posted on: Thursday, May 27, 2010

Sometimes I think I'm cool...then I ask my sister.
Once again the little one proves herself to be cooler/funnier than I am. Below is her reaction to my latest purchase of jean overalls. I had to share, she's ruthless!

I have tried tirelessly to get on board to this whole 'blog' endeavour you've embarked on. For the most part, you've done well. Posts on turquoise accents and throw pillows are just fine, but this time you have gone too far. You have crossed the line from quirky style to "what the hell is she wearing" territory.
Overalls? Are you serious? Overalls were okay when we were in 4th grade and mom bought us pink corduroy ones from the gap, mostly because of our age, and also because they were freaking boss.
You are in your late twenties, you have to give up on the dreams of outfits past. You don't see me trying to resurrect my Limited Too sweatpants that said CHEER on the butt, do you? I'm not walking around trying to sport butterfly clips or tight spaghetti strap tank tops infused with glitter. Nor am i checking out Judy Blume books from the library and collecting beanie babies. I've moved on and so should you. Overalls are just out of the question.
You are not Angelica Pickles (of Rugrats fame) therefore, you are simply not allowed to wear this terrible fashion faux pas. You will end up looking like a crazy old bag lady who hasn't changed since 1989, or a psycho woman desperately trying to relive elementary school. You are a teacher, have some authority and stop dressing like your students.
For the most part, you know what your talking about when it comes to clothes, so stick to what you're good at; big necklaces and decorative pillows. Put on a dress, some eyeliner and have a beer. Grow up Peter Pan, we all have to someday.

I see your jorts... and I raise you a shortall!

This just happened. Will I be teased mercilessly by boys? Yes. Will I rock them anyway? ABSOLUTELY!
I just purchased the Lucky Brand Shortalls and I love them. Above I created a summer look. I know there's a lot going on here but lately I really enjoy not matching. I like wearing different patterns together and just going for it.
I feel like you can wear these all year long. In the winter I can throw on some tights, chunky boots, a little boy blazer, killer accessories and I'm done!
So looking forward to romping around in this! My friend and I decided refering to them as my overalls, or jumper simply wouldn't suffice. We came up with "dumper" (denim jumper). From now on it will be effectionatly referred to as such.
What do you think? Would you dare?

I'm So Green...

I recently purchased these tap watter bottles at Red Tree. I never quite got on the Brita bandwagon and am constantly drinking water straight from the tap rather than buying it. When I saw these bottles I knew they were perfect for me. They retail for $14.95 each. A portion of the proceeds go to and help provide safe drinking water to children around the world. For more information visit
Now they are safe and sound in my fridge next to my other favorite beverage.

Spring design update for my outdoor space

Posted on: Monday, May 17, 2010

Above is my cute little porch from last spring
I decided I needed a little update and indulged in my recent stripe obsession by adding these cushions from TJMaxx for only $13.00 each.
I also picked up some amazing lanterns at TJMaxx ($14.oo each). I decided black just wasn't going to cut it. I wanted to add a punch of color to the space.
So I chose a bold color and began to spray paint.
The process was extremely easy and super quick.
I really like the finished product and the pop of color on the porch. Now I just need some pretty flowers. I'm loving having the fresh new usable space

Show Stopper!

My heart skipped a beat when I saw Alaina's dressing room over at Live Creating Yourself
She absolutely killed it with her design! The soft blue walls and the bold zebra rug are a perfect combination. The rest of the room is filled with tons of thrift store finds and sale items.
How cute is the above idea (borrowed from none other than Martha)? If only I had the space I would love to display all of my jewelry in vintage tea cups. And the sunglasses tucked away in the mint julep cup...genius!
I'm really visual and love having shoes and clothing options out where I can see them.
The addition of the sheepskin throw rug is adorable. I love the texture that it brings to the space and it looks so cozy for cold morning feet, fresh out of the shower.
Find your very own sheepskin rug here for only 24.99 from IKEA
I'm dying to have and extra room to use like this!
Thanks Alaina for the crazy amount of inspiration!
Head on over to her blog and see the entire post here.

Cheap and Chic Find!

Posted on: Monday, May 10, 2010

A few months ago I posted on Ikat pillows from Fabricadabra.
They are amazing and there is a huge selection so I highly recommend that you check them out. They retail for $40.00 each (then you have to buy your insert).
I just stumbled across the above pillows which are quite similar to the Fabricadabra pillows. They are from Uzbek Craft and are only $29.60. They are silk/cotton and measure 20"x 20"
They also carry fabric! Find it here.

Tulips and Trinkets

Posted on: Thursday, May 6, 2010

A few small updates make my living room feel fresh and more cohesive.

I found these at a designer sidewalk sale over the weekend (I love living in the city!).
The blue and white vintage box plays off the colors of the new throw pillows. For only $5.00 there's no way I could pass it up. Even better, the small cylindrical trinket works with my Osa Johnson zebra print book. Again, at $2.00 it was a no brainer.

Purple tulips!? I'm obsessed.
